Low Water Levels on the Rhine and Danube

Update (December 4th, 2018): We are happy to report that after the recent rainfall in Europe, the water levels on the Rhine and Danube rivers have risen dramatically over the past few days. We anticipate returning to originally scheduled itineraries for all cruises embarking December 7th onward*.

We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our valued guests and travel partners for their patience and understanding throughout this period of low water. And to our onboard crews whose remarkable service and care continue to deliver an exceptional vacation experience for our guests.

*to be confirmed: AmaLea Iconic Christmas Markets - embarkation in Nuremberg on December 9th, 2018

Asked Questions

Certain parts of Europe are experiencing unseasonably warm and dry weather, which has resulted in unprecedentedly low water levels along the Danube and Rhine rivers. The nature of river conditions is unpredictable and water levels may rise as quickly as they have fallen. Please be assured that we continue to monitor this situation daily and are taking every precaution necessary to reduce the impact on our guests.

As you know, we cannot anticipate the rainfall from season to season or speculate on how quickly water levels may drop or rise. However, we will continue to monitor the weather, rainfall and river depth so that we can inform you the moment we know of any changes. Please rest assured that you will be contacted if there is an imminent change to your itinerary.

You will not receive a new set of documents. However, you will receive a letter via email advising of any important information pertaining to the changes.

Guests that have made their own arrival arrangements should proceed to the designated meeting point indicated in your notification email when and if applicable. Guests that have purchased transfers through AmaWaterways will be met by a representative upon arrival that will assist you in transferring to your applicable hotel or ship.

You will of course still be able to enjoy our exquisite onboard cuisine paired with unlimited complimentary wine with lunch and dinner, as well as onboard entertainment. No matter where you sail, you will be pampered with the same unparalleled service you can always expect with AmaWaterways. Excursions will still be included and will be available in every port, regardless of where we sail.

Our professionally trained Cruise Managers will continue to accompany guests every step of the way, including during any deviations to the original itinerary, to provide exceptional personalized service throughout your journey.

We at AmaWaterways understand and appreciate that you have spent not just hours, but in some cases years, of preparation planning an unforgettable river cruise vacation. Because you have already made these arrangements, we want to offer you the best river cruise possible by providing alternate itineraries that will still bring you to the heart of historic capitals and fairytale towns.

Itinerary decisions are based on many factors. Should the water level improve and The River Authority allow passage, we will do our best to operate your original itinerary to the best of our abilities based on the individual circumstances of your cruise.
