Check if your cruise is eligible for an upgrade

How Do Stateroom Upgrades Work?

Step 1: Receive an Upgrade Email and Browse Options

If your sailing is eligible, you will receive an email to browse through the stateroom upgrade options available on your river cruise ship. From there, you can select the amount you are willing to offer for each upgrade.

Step 2: Place your bid(s)

Placing multiple offers for different categories will increase your chances of being upgraded, but you will only ever pay for one upgrade.

Single occupancy guests (solo travelers) will be charged double the person rate for the upgrade, paying 200% the chosen bid amount.

For accepted bids on reservations with our Travel Protection Plan, plan cost will increase following upgrade payment.

Step 3: Enjoy your upgrade!

We will notify you via email if your request has been approved. If your bid is accepted, you will be charged for the upgrade. If not, you will keep your original stateroom and will not be charged anything additional.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean when I receive an email invite to upgrade?
If you've received an email invite, you may now start placing offers to upgrade your stateroom category on your upcoming river cruise. Please note: Submitting an upgrade offer does not guarantee an upgrade nor does this program guarantee availability in any particular stateroom category. Your bid will be reviewed leading up to your cruise and you should expect to see a response to your bid within two weeks of departure.
What if I am already waitlisted for a certain stateroom category?
AmaWaterways will prioritize waitlist requests ahead of stateroom upgrade offers if the requested stateroom category becomes available.
Is the offer amount I am submitting in addition to the cost of my original reservation?
Yes, any amount you offer for an upgrade is in addition to the cost of your original reservation.
What happens with the promotions I already have applied to my reservations?
You get to keep the promotions you already have applied to your reservation. However, no additional promotions will be added to your reservation.
What happens if I am traveling as part of a group?
Each reservation is considered individually, and AmaWaterways cannot guarantee that all reservations traveling together will be upgraded, if any. Under the circumstance that all reservations are upgraded, AmaWaterways cannot guarantee that all the upgraded staterooms will be close together.
Can I modify or cancel my upgrade offer after I submit it?
You may modify or cancel your offer up to 7 days prior to your departure, provided that your offer has not already been accepted by AmaWaterways.
When will I know if my upgrade offer is accepted?
You will be notified via email if your upgrade offer is accepted. Your offer can be accepted anytime from the moment it is submitted up until 7 days prior to departure.
If my bid is accepted, how does the upgrade price I pay differ if I am a solo traveler?
Single occupancy guests (solo travelers) will be charged double the person rate for the upgrade, paying 200% the chosen bid amount. This policy ensures that the cost accurately reflects the occupancy and services provided.
Why does the cost of my Travel Protection Plan increase once my bid is accepted?
If your reservation includes our Travel Protection Plan and your bid is accepted, the insurance cost increases to ensure that your enhanced accommodations and associated benefits are fully covered.
