Learn more about AmaMagna’s esteemed Godmother Samantha Brown

Travel expert and television host Samantha Brown filmed an episode of her PBS show, Samantha Brown’s Places to Love, while cruising the Rhine River aboard the AmaPrima last summer with her family. As a proud sponsor – and fan – of the show, AmaWaterways was thrilled to name Samantha as Godmother of the new AmaMagna, launching in May 2019. Want to join her on board AmaMagna as she sails the Romantic Danube following the christening festivities? Get to know Samantha before you book and discover what she loved most about AmaWaterways by reading the interview below.

What was it about AmaWaterways that inspired you to reach out to work with our cruise line?

I met AmaWaterways’ executives Gary Murphy and Kristin Karst at a travel advisors conference. What blew me away was that the company was family owned. They told me their mission was for people to have a much more heightened experience than just going from point A to point B. I really liked the personal experience they wanted to give their guests.

Had you ever river cruised before you filmed aboard AmaPrima?

I had taken quite a few big ship cruises on the ocean, but never anything as intimate. With a big ship, you lose perspective that you’re on a ship on the water, but you never do with river cruising. You can really enjoy the journey while still having a connection to the land.

Did the AmaPrima crew make you feel that “family atmosphere” on board?

They were all so personable right away and made it their mission and passion to make sure we were all having a lovely time. You can tell the crew genuinely goes beyond just giving you good customer service. They take you under their wing and make sure you’re enjoying yourself every step of the way.

Was there an instance where you felt a specific crew member was going above and beyond?

The onboard musician, Norbert, was incredible. When my kids would come into the lounge, he would start playing Disney music for them. And then another group would come in and he would play music they liked. He had a soundtrack for all of us. I loved that he made the lounge a more intimate space through music at lunch, dinner and throughout the day. It’s these little, touching moments that really matter to guests on board.

What was your favorite Rhine River destination?

I loved Rüdesheim. As soon as you walk off the ship, you’re in the town. There was a beautiful park and playground where my children could run and jump. We arrived around 4 pm and the next day we enjoyed the wines and stunning location overlooking the Rhine. It was very magical.

Were you surprised to be named AmaMagna’s Godmother?

Oh my gosh, yes! It really resonated with me when I got to take my first river cruise just how important these ships are. It’s such a unique company and I get to be forever a part of it. I’m looking forward to the pomp and circumstance of it all – I love that stuff. It almost feels like I’m getting married to the ship! I’m very proud.

Why should guests join you on board AmaMagna for the July 14, 2019 Romantic Danube cruise?

I’ll be sharing insider tips and stories during two presentations that focus on how you can really appreciate the essence of travel. And for me, it’s the lovely camaraderie and community you’ll create by being on this ship – and the friendships you’ll take with you for the rest of your lives.
