John Bargetto is part of the fourth generation Bargetto winemakers, which has been involved with winemaking in the Santa Cruz Mountains (SCM) since 1889. While in college, he decided to dedicate his life to winemaking. In 1984 he graduated from U.C. Davis with a degree in Enology and a minor in history. Thereafter, John took over the reins as winemaker at Bargetto Winery. Knowing the winery would benefit from some marketing, John returned to graduate school and earned an MBA from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. In 1991, John established the Regan Vineyards estate in the SCM. This cool climate vineyard is one of the largest and the most diverse vineyards in the SCM, most importantly, featuring cool-climate Pinot Noir. Today, two of John’s three adult children have graduated in enology at the university level and he hopes someday they will join him in the family business.
