Enticing Douro - Soulful Experience

Fado was born at a crossroads, between the Portuguese soul and the sounds carried by enslaved Africans who settled in Lisbon's waterfront neighborhoods, centuries of sorrow and beauty becoming something new. This Soulful Experience sailing along the Douro honors that creative inheritance through live performances, artist encounters and cultural programming set among the UNESCO-listed terraced vineyards of the valley and the azulejo-tiled streets of Porto.

Highlights of your Soulful Experience

Three Nights in Lisbon

Explore Portugal's coastal capital alongside local guides, with plenty of time for independent exploration. Your stay includes luxury accommodations, daily breakfast and more.

Black history in Portugal

Start in Lisbon, where enslaved Africans once settled along the waterfront. Then follow that history up the Douro to the old walls of Castelo Rodrigo.

The Atlantic story of port

Taste port where it's made and hear how its centuries-old trade tied this valley to the wider Atlantic world.

Traditional Colombian dish Bandeja Paisa with fried egg, beans, rice, chorizo, and pork rind served on a rustic table setting.

Fado and its Atlantic roots

Live fado shows off the music's Afro-Brazilian roots. At the table, taste how flavors that crossed the Atlantic still shape Portuguese food.

“This was our third trip on Ama and it did not disappoint. Your shore excursions were truly amazing, and I found it very difficult to pick one that I liked best. AmaWaterways combined so much culture, history, entertainment and fun in each one. Our vacation is one to remember.”
