Our German Heritage

Our Co-Founder and Executive Vice President, Kristin Karst, grew up in Dresden, Germany where she discovered the magic of travel while sailing with her family along the Elbe River. Her German heritage has influenced many of our included excursions, ensuring only the most authentic experiences are delivered to our guests. Much of our crew also hail from the regions we sail through – unique in the cruise industry.

Visit Lahneck Castle in Lahnstein, where you’ll hear a treasure trove of legends or attend an exclusive wine festival in Volkach – just for AmaWaterways guests!

A Variety of Excursions

With up to five included excursions each day, it’s easy to personalize your experience. From Ludwigshafen, Germany, for instance, venture to Heidelberg to hike the Philosopher’s Path along the Neckar River, bike to the charming town of Ladenburg or take a thrilling excursion to the glorious Mannheim Baroque Palace, choosing the activity level best suited for you (gentle, regular or active). We also offer culinary-themed special interest tours, such as as our “Bamberg Specialties” tasting tour that allows you to sample smoked beer, licorice root and Hornla pastry while cruising the Main River. All of our excursions are our treat to you.
