Captivating Rhine Wine Cruise

“I must say we really enjoyed Siegfried's Mechanical Museum in Rudesheim. That place is uniquely spectacular and so interesting. ”

Danube/Rhine-Biking

“Some of the bike rides are shorter distances and are city tours by bicycle so you actually see more area than you would see on a walking tour. You stop frequently to hear about the area. Other bike rides are really rides from one town to another through villages along the river, on bike paths or roads. On those we usually stop a couple times and the guide tells us a little bit about the area… I’ve done rides where we’ve gone a bit of a distance down across the town, followed pathways along the river, ridden through gravel paths amongst vineyards and eventually came to a beautiful winery that we had time to explore from the outside. I’ve done another one where we rode along the river for 10-12 miles and then visited an adorable little town, learned about the Roman influence there, learned about houses in the village, etc., and then we rode back. I’ve done full city tours in Strasbourg, Lyon, Linz and Vienna, where we saw everything that the walking tours saw, plus more. We didn't go into any of the cathedrals, but had some free time in cities when you could visit on our own, if you wish. I’ve also done a number of bike rides that were literally just a ride while the ship sailed, and we went from one place to the next, or just a scenic ride and learned a little about the area, but we were out of the towns and cities. From the descriptions in the itinerary you should be able to get an idea what the ride is like (the shorter ones tend to be city tours), and the Wellness Host or the Cruise Manager will tell you more about them.”

Captivating Rhine

“I’ve sailed the Rhine River three times now and been to Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Cabinet every time. It was a totally different experience the third time when I experienced the museum through my new friends’ eyes. Also, AmaWaterways has a variety of excursion choices every day, so on my first cruise on the Rhine River when we docked in Ludwigshafen, Germany, I took the walking tour through Heidelberg; the next time I did the Heidelberg Philosopher’s Path hike; and this last time I visited Speyer, which I have always wanted to do.”

Captivating Rhine

“Colmar was really cool. We just stumbled upon a wine shop near a church and saw that they did wine by the glass. It was really fun. The people were quite lovely and pleasant. The cheese was outstanding and the wine was good, but we were in the middle of France, surrounded by half-timbered houses, eating cheese, so I couldn’t really complain! ”

Rhine & Moselle Fairytales

“When we transitioned from the Rhine to the Moselle, I had this sudden feeling of peace come over me. You can see beautiful ripples in the water and mountains covered with vineyards and forests. I liked this itinerary so much I will be doing it again!”

Christmas Markets on the Rhine

“It was also really nice that the tours had built-in free time so that we could do some things just for our kids. Europe is so family-friendly; we always felt the kids were welcome – especially at the Christmas Markets, which are designed for families. At the Christmas Markets, my older boys, Diego and Mateo, were obsessed with trying the sausages, “pasta in a cone” and all the desserts. We collected glühwein mugs from every city and bought some keepsakes for the kids, including a cherished amulet for Sofia.”
