Africa

After first being moved by their own personal experiences in Africa and along the Chobe River, our Co-Founders were determined to offer similarly unforgettable Africa Safaris & Wildlife Cruises for our guests. The villages we visit on our Africa itineraries are often quite rural and rely on outside support to enhance both safe living conditions and educational opportunities for the village youth. Here are some of the ways in which we and our guests are offering our assistance.

Supporting Youth in South Africa and Communities On the Chobe River

Each year we sail our Africa Safaris & Wildlife Cruises, we provide financial support to Kliptown Youth Program in Johannesburg, South Africa, which provides academic tutoring, athletic opportunities and arts programs to help enable local youth to rise out of poverty. We are proud to help empower the next generation with our support.

We also provide annual financial assistance to the villages we visit in Namibia along the Chobe River. Among many meaningful projects, our support has contributed to the construction of boreholes that allow for safer, more convenient access to clean drinking water, as well as the building of solar panels that provide renewable energy to the villages.

After visiting villages along the Chobe River on one of our sailings, Robert and Peg E. generously shipped $500 worth of new clothes and shoes to help support local villagers, and donated funds for additional clothes as well as safe feminine hygiene products that help ensure girls are able to stay in school throughout the month. The couple plans to continue supporting these villages in the future.

Von and Suzann H. were similarly moved to action upon noticing how deflated villagers’ soccer balls were. They located an organization that develops airless soccer balls and arranged for them to be taken to a village along the Chobe River as well as a school and community center in Kliptown, part of the township of Soweto.

Guest Bob B. and his wife Charmion S. also arranged the purchase of more than 20 Google Chrome tablets to support teachers and students at a school in Kliptown. In addition, due to the generosity of our guests and others, a Chobe River village now has running well water and solar power.

We are thrilled to know that our Africa Safaris & Wildlife Cruises have inspired such kindhearted guests and hope to welcome you aboard the Zambezi Queen soon.
