Arrival in the Heart of Rwanda
Arrive at Kigali Airport, meet an AmaWaterways representative, and transfer to the Kigali Serena Hotel for the evening.
History, Remembrance, and Mountain Roads
Learn about Rwanda’s history and recent past on a tour of Kigali, with a sobering visit to the Genocide Memorial, followed by lunch at the Hotel Des Mille Collines, the inspiration for the film Hotel Rwanda. After lunch, drive to Musanze, your base for Volcanoes National Park, and check into The Bishop’s House.
Into the Mist for Silverback Encounters
Rise early for a once-in-a-lifetime trek into Volcanoes National Park. Expert guides lead small groups through mist-shrouded bamboo forests to encounter the rare Silverback Gorillas that call these slopes home. The trek may last two to six hours depending on the gorillas’ movements. If time permits, end your day with a visit to the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo or explore nearby markets in Ruhengeri.
A Morning's Choice and Return to the Capital
Enjoy a morning at leisure or opt for another trek to see the Silverback Gorillas or head out on a separate trek in search of Rwanda’s Golden Monkeys. After lunch at the lodge, you’ll drive back to Kigali and check into the Serena Hotel. Enjoy dinner at your leisure, either at the hotel or in one of Kigali’s lively restaurants
