Dan Duryee’s wealth of knowledge, breadth of experience, and ability to communicate his sheer exuberance about wines will add real insights to our Rhine River journey.
His own journey began in the Kansas City area, followed by a degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Colorado, staying on there to play 5 years of semi-professional soccer for the Pikes Peak Stampede. Then his love of teaching and wine drew him to Portland, OR, where he taught science at Capitol Hill Elementary and concurrently worked to develop his expertise in wine and wine sales.
Dan served for 11 vintages as Associate Winemaker and Management Team member at Cana’s Feast Winery. He became the Director of Winemaking at Lady Hill in 2016. In addition to carrying on the legacy of producing world class wines, Dan remains a jack-of-all-trades as he also contributes to Lady Hill’s facilities operations, wholesale distribution, retail sales, and general management team.
Throughout his 17 years’ experience in winemaking, he’s had the pleasure of working with countless growers from the Columbia Valley, WA, throughout the Willamette Valley and down into Southern Oregon. Dan has built a solid winemaking career based on producing just about every varietal grown in the area, including those grown throughout the Rhineland, from Pinot Blanc and Riesling to Pinot Noir and beyond.
When he’s not fermenting, blending, bottling and selling, you’ll find him spending time with his wife and three kids or steelhead and salmon fishing on the coast.
