AmaWaterways is pleased to announce
the opening of the ODA Free Village English
School in the province of Siem Reap, Cambodia
in association with ODA – the Orphans and
Disabled Arts Association. Through financial
support to the school, AmaWaterways
sponsorship brings critical English-language
skills to local children of grammar-school
age to help improve their lives and assist
with subsequent employment opportunities.
AmaWaterways passengers touring the
Angkor Archaeological Park as part of their
16-day "Vietnam, Cambodia and the Riches of
the Mekong" itinerary are given the opportunity
to visit the school during their excursion to the
nearby Banteay Srei temple.
Local dignitaries, village residents and school
children attended the official opening of
classes at the ODA Free Village English School
in the spring of 2011 in conjunction with the
commencement of Cambodian New Year. Festivities included a chanted blessing by local
monks; traditional Apsara dances by the school
children, games, food as well as speeches by
school officials. Surrounded by the famous
temples of Angkor, the area is uniquely tied
to the Khmer culture and relies primarily on
tourism.
AmaWaterways is proud to sponsor this
English school. Our passengers derive much
enjoyment from visiting this remarkable part
of the world, known for its stunning temple
complexes. Many are very touched by the
warmth of the local children, and we are
honored to participate in such a constructive
and lasting project
HELPING FROM HOME
Passengers often ask if there is something they
can bring from home to donate to the ODA
Free Village English School during their visit. If
you are interested in making a contribution, we
suggest basic school supplies, such as pencils,
erasers, pens, chalk, small notebooks, post-itnotes,
dry erase markers and highlighters.
Thank You!
