Welcome to Amsterdam, a modern city with a rich and fascinating 700-year old history. Explore its unique and elegant architecture, lively cafés and markets, and vibrant nightlife. This evening, meet your fellow passengers on board at the Welcome Dinner. (D)
Day 2AMSTERDAM - VOLENDAM - EDAM
After breakfast, enjoy a scenic morning cruise through the historic harbor and canals of Amsterdam. See the beautiful homes that line the water, the fabled Skinny Bridge, and the famous house where Anne Frank spent years in hiding during World War II. Later, enjoy a panoramic city tour that includes a windmill and other iconic landmarks. Return to the ship for lunch while you cruise the Ijsselmeer towards Volendam. Enjoy a late afternoon tour of Volendam Harbor and see the fishing fleet and fish auction building. Continue by motor coach to Edam, a picturesque town with a rich historic past. You will have a walking tour of the Old Quarter’s beautiful houses, canals, bridges and churches, including one of the largest in Holland, the Grote Kerk (Great Church). (B,L,D)
Day 3ARNHEM - NIJMEGEN
Arrive in beautiful Arnhem early this morning and choose from two tours today. Your first option is to see the monument commemorating the Battle of Arnhem Bridge made famous by the classic film “A Bridge Too Far.” You’ll also visit the Airborne Museum and learn more about the Battle of Arnhem, one of the major campaigns of World War II. Your second choice is a tour of the most stunning royal residence in Holland, Het Loo Palace, with lavishly furnished rooms and meticulously sculpted gardens. After your tour, return to the ship for lunch and cruise to Nijmegen for some free time. Enjoy scenic cruising this evening as you sail through the Netherlands en route to Belgium. (B,L,D)
Day 4ANTWERP, BELGIUM
This morning, you will have your choice of one of two different excursions. Your first option is a walking tour of Antwerp on which you will see Antwerp Castle, Grote Market, Brabo Fountain and the city’s superb architecture. Your second option is a visit to Rubens House, the former home of the famous Flemish Baroque painter. The afternoon is free to explore Antwerp on your own. More active travelers may choose to join a guided bike tour through the charming streets of Antwerp, passing impressive historical sites such as Cogels Osylei, Waterloo House, St. Jacob's Church and the Museum Ridder Smidt van Gelder. Return to the ship later this afternoon. After dinner, your ship departs for Ghent. (B,L,D)
Day 5GHENT
After breakfast, take a guided walking tour of Ghent, which includes such highlights as the Belfry Hall, the Koornlei, the Graslei and the Castle of the Counts. Alternatively, visit a Belgian chocolate workshop to learn about the history of chocolate from a master chocolatier, taste types of pralines and even have the opportunity to make your own. This afternoon enjoy free time to explore Ghent or perhaps take an optional excursion to Bruges, one of Europe’s most perfectly preserved medieval cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Day 6WILLEMSTAD, THE NETHERLANDS – KINDERDIJK – SCHOONHOVEN
This morning we will stop in the charming 400-year old town of Willemstad for a walking tour and special organ recital at the oldest Protestant church in the Netherlands. In the afternoon, you will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kinderdijk, a lovely village renowned for having the country’s greatest concentration of windmills, all dating from the 18th century. Tonight the ship cruises to Schoonhoven, where we will moor overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 7AMSTERDAM- KEUKENHOF - AMSTERDAM
We arrive in Amsterdam today. Admire the spectacular display of millions of flowering tulips during your morning excursion to the famous 70-acre Keukenhof Gardens. In the afternoon, enjoy an excursion to delightful Zaanse Schans, a small historic village just outside of Amsterdam. Alternatively, stay in Amsterdam for a walking tour of the upscale Jordaan district. The ship moors overnight in Amsterdam. (B,L,D)

Following a period of renewed growth after the Second World War, Hoorn is now better known as a bustling residential town, which retains its historical character. Located at the historic Kasteel van Groot-Bijgaarden in Brussels, this annual spring flower show offers 14 hectares of brilliantly beautiful Tulips, Daffodils and an abundance of other spring flowers. Amongst the ancient trees of the park and along the shores of their pond, roughly one million bulbs are hand planted each year by the castle’s staff, accounting for over 500 different varieties of flowers, 400 of these alone are the regions’ trademark Tulips. Roam through color in the ‘rainbow’ labyrinth, or explore the conservatory with its exhibitions of cut flowers, floral arrangements and ornamental plants. After a brief orientation tour, you will have several hours free time to enjoy this personal and intimate feast for the senses at your leisure, before returning back to the ship in Antwerp just in time for dinner.

Summary of Excursion

We will leave the hustle and bustle of busy Amsterdam behind to visit the small village of Zaanse Schans on the banks of the Zaan River. It’s packed with traditional wooden windmills, barns, houses and museums and built in the typically Dutch wooden architectural style. Many of the buildings were under threat from urban development across North Holland and have been relocated here piece by piece since 1961. Enjoy free time to wander through the stunning buildings and the unique peat meadow landscape before returning to the ship.

Summary of Excursion

This walking tour takes you to the Jordaan district, famous for its specialty shops, fashion boutiques, and restaurants. The tour begins at the Westerchurch, and then takes you past such highlights as the Noordermarkt, the Karthuizerhof (one of the loveliest inner courtyards in the city) and the “9 streets,” an area famous for its shops, cafes and bistros. We will stop at a local coffee house to enjoy a hot beverage and Dutch apple pie.
