Portugal’s Valley of Wine, the Douro

Few rivers feel as celebratory as the Douro, where terraced vineyards and sunlit hillsides open into medieval towns as you wind through Portugal’s most famous wine region.

Frequently Asked Questions

AmaVida was purpose-built for Spain and Portugal’s Douro River, carrying up to 102 guests for an intimate experience through vineyard valleys and historic towns. Her design combines AmaWaterways’ signature comforts — spacious staterooms, attentive service, and elegant common areas — with a true sense of place. Guests enjoy panoramic views from the lounge and Sun Deck pool, excursions to wine estates and medieval villages, and cuisine paired with local wines, creating a cruise that feels both personal and immersive.

On board, guests will find exquisite, locally-sourced cuisine at the Main Restaurant. Menus highlight Portuguese and Spanish flavors paired with local wine — including the region’s signature Port. Guests can also enjoy afternoon tea, tapas and lighter bites in the lounge, and a specialty coffee station. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs are happily accommodated.

AmaVida has 51 staterooms and suites across five categories. All include climate control, flat-screen TVs, spacious bathrooms, and a desk and chair. Many staterooms feature balconies for fresh air and Douro River views, while suites provide extra space, larger sitting areas, and additional comforts for an indulgent stay.

Yes. AmaVida has a fitness room, massage services, and a Sun Deck pool that overlooks the valley’s terraced vineyards. Guests can also enjoy the walking track on deck and join guided hikes or bike rides ashore for more active exploration.

Yes. AmaVida offers staterooms and suites that work well for families and groups, with welcoming spaces such as the lounge and Sun Deck providing natural gathering spots. The reservations team can assist in selecting the best staterooms and arrangements for your party.

Cruises include all meals, beer and wine with lunch and dinner (often featuring Douro wines), a daily Sip & Sail cocktail hour, Wi-Fi, and guided excursions in every port. Premium beverages, gratuities, and optional tours may be additional, but most essentials for a seamless journey are included.

AmaVida sails exclusively on Spain and Portugal’s Douro River, offering itineraries that highlight Porto, the Douro Valley’s vineyard landscapes, and historic towns like Salamanca along the way.

AmaViola features an elevator* and wide public areas to make moving around easier. Some staterooms are specially designed for guests with mobility needs, and the crew is always available to offer assistance both on board and during shore excursions, ensuring you feel comfortable and supported throughout your trip.

Elevator reaches Violin and Cello Deck. Does not reach Sun or Piano Deck.

Yes. Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is available in your room and in all public areas, making it easy to stay connected, share photos, or check in with loved ones.

On rare occasions, water levels can affect river cruising. AmaWaterways arranges alternatives such as sister ships, overland transfers, or adjusted schedules to ensure comfort and continuity for guests.
