Day 1ARRIVE IN PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
Arrive in Prague and check-in to your hotel. The balance of the day is free to start exploring this beautiful city.
Day 2PRAGUE
This morning, choose between a standard city tour and a hike. Both will reveal why Prague is considered one of Europe’s most attractive cities, with a historic city center that’s recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will see Rudolfinum, the National Museum, Wenceslas Square and the Hundertwasser Dancing House. Next, visit the 1,000 year-old Prague Castle and St. Vitus before walking over the romantic Charles Bridge to the Old Market Square, where you will find the capital’s famous Astronomical Clock, Tyn Church and the statue of Jan Husek. The rest of the day is at your leisure, perhaps to enjoy yourself in one of the city’s many charming cafés. (B)
Day 3PRAGUE
Spend a day at your leisure, perhaps to stroll through a museum or gallery, wander along the banks of the Vltava River, relax at an outdoor café, or shop for local handicrafts. (B)
Day 4PRAGUE – REGENSBURG, GERMANY – EMBARKATION – VILSHOFEN
Depart Prague this morning and stop in Regensburg for a guided walking tour of one of Germany’s best preserved medieval cities, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After lunch on your own, continue on to the charming 1,200-year-old Bavarian town of Vilshofen and board your luxurious ship. Later this afternoon, join your fellow passengers at a private Oktoberfest celebration in Vilshofen, with traditional beers and Bavarian folk music and dancing. Later, enjoy a festive Welcome Dinner aboard the ship. (B,D)
Day 5VILSHOFEN - PASSAU
This morning you are free to explore Vilshofen’s beautiful old town before cruising to Passau. This afternoon you will have a walking tour of this 2,000-year-old city, noted for its Gothic and Italian Baroque architecture, cobblestone streets, and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. (B,L,D)
Day 6LINZ, AUSTRIA
The ship arrives this morning in Linz. Enjoy a walking tour of the second largest city in Austria or choose a guided bike tour that will show you around the Old City Center, along the Danube River, and past the ultra-modern Ars Electronica Center. Later, you will have a choice of three different excursions. The first option is an excursion to Salzburg, Mozart’s birthplace, where you will take a walking tour of the historic center made famous by "The Sound of Music.” The second option is an excursion to the Czech town of Cesky Krumlov, a wonderfully preserved medieval town nestled in the hills just over the Austrian-Czech border. The third option is a visit to the Austrian Lake District, the scenic Salzkammergut region. All three regions are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. (B,L,D)
Day 7WEISSENKIRCHEN
Cruise through the narrow Strudengau this morning en route to Weissenkirchen. You have three choices of how to explore Dürnstein today. The first is a walking tour along the town’s cobblestone streets followed by a visit to the magnificent Benedictine Abbey at Melk, one of Europe’s largest and most famous monastic sites, home to religious relics and a library filled with medieval manuscripts. Alternatively, you may join a hike up to the fortress where Richard the Lionheart was once held for ransom, or enjoy an Apricots and Sweets tasting instead. Tonight, after dinner on board, enjoy a wine tasting at a local winery. (B,L,D)
Day 8VIENNA
This morning, you will have a chance to savor the Baroque elegance of romantic Vienna through your choice of one of three different excursions. The first option is a panoramic tour of Vienna that guides you past the majestic Opera House, the former Imperial Palace of the Habsburg Emperors, Parliament, Town Hall and Vienna University. Afterwards, you will visit Vienna’s historic city center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and see St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Graben and the world famous Spanish Riding School. The second option is a walking tour of Vienna’s hidden treasures that takes you to secret places and sights like Ankeruhr, a whimsical Art Nouveau clock. Your third option is a guided bike tour along the Danube and through the Donaupark. This afternoon, you can join a guided bike ride to Klosterneuburg Monastery, or explore at your leisure. Day 9BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA
Enjoy a scenic morning cruise to Bratislava, where you will have three choices of excursions. The first is a walking tour that includes the Old Town Hall, Mirbach Palace and St. Martin’s Cathedral. The second is a Slovakian Specialties tasting where you will enjoy a welcome glass of sparkling wine, sample a creamy soup made from sheep's cheese and learn how to prepare stuffed potato ravioli. Finally, you can also join a hike up to Bratislava Castle, which includes visits to the Castle Upper Terrace and Court of Honor. The remainder of the day is free to explore on your own. (B,L,D)
Day 10BUDAPEST, HUNGARY
Your morning excursion includes sightseeing in the cities of Buda and Pest spread over both banks of the river. You will see famed Heroes’ Square and Castle Hill, home to Fisherman’s Bastion, Matthias Church and spectacular views of the Danube. Alternatively, you may also opt to join a hike up to Castle Hill on which you will see Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion and Parliament Square. After dinner, the ship will sail a special Illuminations Cruise past the glittering riverfront of Budapest. (B,L,D)

Next, we visit Prague Castle, said to be one of the largest in the world. From the castle, walk over Charles Bridge to the Old Town Square. Summary of Excursion

During WWII, the Gestapo used Terezin (a.k.a.Theresienstadt) as a concentration camp for Jews from Czechoslovakia, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and Denmark. German propaganda convinced international organizations that the camp was simply a “beautification project.” The camp became so famous a movie was made about it. A visit to Terezin is a “must see” for many of our guests, guaranteed to be a profoundly moving experience.

Depart the hotel and head to Regensburg for a guided walking tour of this densely packed city and its colorful history. Regensburg is home to one of the oldest restaurants in the world, the Sausage Kitchen, notable for its role in feeding the stone masons who built the adjacent Stone Bridge. The Stone Bridge is a masterwork of medieval construction and now serves as a symbol of the city. Afterwards, you’ll have free time to explore the old town before departing for Vilshofen. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the countryside before arriving at your ship this afternoon.

PASSAU WALKING TOUR

Summary of Excursion

Passau is also known as the Dreiflussestadt or "City of Three Rivers," because the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers all converge here. The town has many notable Baroque buildings and cobblestone streets, especially in the Old Town area. You will see the city fortifications and St. Stephan’s Cathedral, home to one of the largest church pipe organs in the world (with 17,774 pipes and 233 registers!).
As an alternative to the walking tour of Passau, the more active guest may choose instead to venture high into the hills for a visit to “Veste Oberhaus”, Passau’s Castle Hill, which is enthroned 382 meters above the Danube, and offers magnificent views across the old town of Passau.

It is home to many notable cultural institutions, such as the Lentos Museum of Modern Art, and annual festivals like the Pflasterspektakel, an international street art festival held every July. The city of Linz perfectly combines modern architecture with historical buildings and sights. When strolling through Linz, one can literally sense its history. This walking tour guides you through the old city center, the old market, and past the Mozart House, where he composed the Linz Symphony in only three days. The city’s Main Square is not to be missed as the historic center of Linz and a treasure trove of splendid monuments and buildings.

As an alternative to the walking tour, this guided bike tour of Linz will take you past the ultra-modern Ars Electronica Center and along the city’s famed ‘Culture Mile’, which plays host to the annual Linz Art Festival. From futuristic to historical, you will carry on along the Danube River, offering grand views of Linzer Schloss Castle. After a drive along the picturesque shores of Lake Attersee, we will stop to explore the town of Mondsee, situated upon Lake Mondsee, and home of the famed Basilica St. Michael, site of the wedding scene in The Sound of Music. We then continue on to St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut, where legend has it, the Devil was tricked into building the local church by Saint Wolfgang himself, to walk the lake shore and enjoy the fresh mountain air. The Palace of Schonbrunn is an exquisite example of Baroque architecture and opulence, illustrating the tastes, interests, and aspirations of successive Habsburg monarchs. Built as the summer residence of the Habsburg Emperors and spanning an astounding 1,441 rooms, this Rococo palace soon became one of their favorite homes. Your visit will include a guided tour of the Imperial apartments, the living quarters of the Emperors, which still contain their original furnishings and the Carriage Museum, a collection of carriages used by the imperial family and Viennese court. The equally impressive gardens were built around an artesian well from which the palace draws its name (Schonbrunn means “beautiful spring”) and now encompasses various botanical specimens, numerous sculptures of deities and virtues, a maze, an arboretum and a small zoo popular with local families.

Carrying on from Great Market Hall, the remainder of this mornings’ tour includes sightseeing on both the Buda and the Pest sides of the river. In 1873, the independent cities of Buda and Pest officially merged and became Budapest.
